With the creation of the Parliament of Catalonia in 1980 and the publication of Barcelona City Council's new Museums Plan in 1984, the provisional move of the Library from the Ciutadella to the Casa de la Caritat was tackled. The Library stayed in this place from 1987 to 1990, the year it was made part of the new project to create the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya.

In the Casa de la Caritat, the filing cabinets in the reading room are the same ones that have been in the Library since the beginning.
