Virgin and Child on the Throne with Six Angels
The scene depicts the Virgin Mary seated on a throne, with the Child standing on her lap in the act of blessing. Both are luxuriously dressed. Behind them are six angels holding censers. The composition is simple, but shows a blend between the pictorial traditions of Siena and Florence characteristic of Lorenzo Monaco's style. The artist was a monk of the Camaldolese order in the monastery of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Florence who had a great influence on the work of Fra Angelico. This could be the central panel of a polyptych which someone has tried to partly reconstruct with a 'Saint Francis' from a private collection in Florence on the left and the 'Epiphany' from the Muzeum Narodowe in Pozna? on the right.
