Lluís Borrassà

Lluís Borrassà was one of the leading artists of the Catalan Gothic. Member of a dynasty of painters from Girona, in the 1380s he set up his workshop in Barcelona and came to be the figurehead of the pictorial scenario in Catalonia. A great number of works by this prolific painter have been preserved, although he enjoyed only a token presence at the museum until the accesion of this fine predella panel. The piece, like its twin with Saint John the Baptist and Saint Barbara, now at the Harvard Art Museums, is considered to be part of the retable of Sant Pere de Terrassa, of which thirteen panels are preserved at the Museu de Terrassa.
