Description:
Despite the eminently religious character of medieval art, the secular nobility used to be in charge of financing of artworks. The representation of the figure of the client is not unusual in Romanesque art, as attested by the presence here of the Countess of Pallars Lucia, portrayed in the right lower part of the apse. The noble lady is luxuriously dresed up and holds a lightened candle in her hands, an attribute that is often accociated with deceased people. This detail supposes that the paintings were finished after her death, documented in 1090.
