These canvases adorning the doors of the organ stall of the cathedral of La Seu d'Urgell helped keep out the cold and damp. The use of grisaille had special devotional significance in terms of the liturgical calendar, which restricted the display of brightly colourful sacred images and brightly coloured sacred images and the performance of music during Lent.
