Josep Tapiró

This highly meticulous portrait is one of the best known and most characteristic of Tapiró's works from the Tangiers period. It shows a bride adorned with jewels in the traditional fashion and gives a detailed rendering of her magnificent ceremonial attire. The painting was exhibited in London, where it was a great success, and shown to the Prince and Princess of Wales at the end of July 1883. The following month it was purchased by Ferran Miró, a collector from Reus. In 1948 Miró's heirs donated the watercolour to the Museus d'Art de Barcelona.
