Apse from Sant Pere de La Seu d'Urgell
The apse is the most important space in the church, where the altar is placed. In Romanesque, apses are usually decorated with a Theophany, or manifestation of the Lord, as we can see in this example of La Seu d'Urgell. Although it is preserved incomplete, we can observe a large representation of Christ in Majesty shown within a mandorla. He is surrounded by the Tetramorph, or symbols of the Evangelists. In the middle, there are some of the Apostles and the Virgin Mary. In the register below, which has not been preserved, there must have been a painting imitating a drape of luxurious fabric.
