'MEXICAN SUITCASE' EXHIBITION OPENS

As from today, 6 October, you can visit The Mexican Suitcase, the rediscovered Spanish Civil War negatives by Capa, Chim and Taro.

The Mexican Suitcase is the name given to three boxes containing 4,500 negatives taken during the Spanish Civil War by Robert Capa, Chim (David Seymour) and Gerda Taro, the grand masters of war photojournalism. For a long time it was thought to have been lost, until it turned up in Mexico, hence the name. The International Center of Photography in New York has studied the contents, part of which is now being presented at the MNAC for the first time in Spain.

At the exhibition you can see rolls of negatives that show the original sequence of the published photograph and reveal previously unknown scenes as well as the three photographers' masterly technique. This is exceptional graphic testimony of life at the front or in the trenches, of the ravages of the air raids on the civil population and the of drama of the refugee camps. The Mexican Suitcase is therefore a reflection of our history.
