Annunciation and Three Kings of the Epiphany
Around the second quarter of the 14th century, Catalonia incorporated the pictorical proposals of the Tuscan painting, especially Florentine and from Siena. The main autochthonous current of the new Italianism was that in which Ferrer Bassa and his son Arnau took part. It is precisely in their workshop or in their circle to which this panel can be attributed, which came from a notable altarpiece of Marian dismemberment of which another piece, an Nativity, is conserved in the Fogg Art Museum of Cambridge (Massachussetts). The three kings of the lower register should be related to the central image, which is today lost, of the Virgin Mary and child, who presides the altarpiece, devoted to the childhood of Christ.
