Altar frontal from Mosoll
Painted altarpiece framed with a border with a varied decoration with an intertwining of medallions with animal figurations (lion, bird, peacock, eagle). The composition, with a red background, is divided in four compartments marked by the crossing of two vegetable borders, which at the vault each one is divided in three arches. Despite this compartmentalisation, the figuration makes up a sort of continual narration about the role of Mary in the history of the Incarnation and Salvation. In the upper register, the Journey of the Wise men on horseback to worship the baby Jesus, who appears accompanied by Mary and Joseph (Mt 2, 9-11), and the scene of the Visitation (Lk 1, 39-45). In the lower register, the Annunciation (Lk 26-38), the Presentation at the Temple (Joseph offers the doves, the Virgin places the Child on the Altar next to the consecrated host, and the prophet Simeon) (Lk 1, 22-35), and the Dormition of Mary, with Christ blessing accompanied by three apostles. The altarpiece, which is composed of three horizontal posts framed by a rack of four sections, presents an important gap in the lower part.
